Welcome to my site, My name is Peter Chipchase (Pete). I am a retired fire-fighter who formerly worked for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. I joined the Barnsley Fire and Ambulance Service in 1964 as a Fireman/Ambulanceman after serving part-time in the Auxilary Fire Service when both services were merged, at this time the service was in the process of becoming two separate units working from the same premises.

In 1974 with the amalgamation into South Yorkshire of 5 Brigades, Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham Doncaster and parts of the West Riding, Fire Service South Yorkshire was born.
